Something you'll never see in my pictures? Chopped pillows. This take is hot - and I don't want to offend you if it's a look you love - but here is why I just can't get behind the trend.
You know the look - big, fluffy throw pillows with a dramatic karate-chop dent in the top. It’s meant to say, “This pillow was thoughtfully placed by a designer with great taste.” But to me? It says, “This pillow has been performing instead of living.”
The chop became popular in the era of hyper-styled catalog spreads and real estate staging, when designers wanted everything to look more tailored. To some, giving the pillow a shape may invoke a more "finished" look. But to me, it feels fussy and staged.
I’m a firm believer that your home should feel inviting, comfortable, and lived-in. Pillows should be soft and huggable, not sculpted into submission. When you sit down at the end of a long day, you want to just plop down on the sofa. You don't want to be worried about "ruining" the look. You want to collapse into a plush, cozy cloud that looks and feels like it’s there for you!
My take: let pillows be pillows. Let them slouch a little, fluff them naturally, and embrace a look that says “real home” over “photo shoot set.”
Design doesn’t have to be precious to be beautiful. Sometimes, the most stylish spaces are the ones that don’t try so hard - and that includes your pillows.
